Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Teamscape
Getting Started
Q: What is Teamscape?
A: Teamscape is a dynamic, team-based assessment and process that helps teams and working groups optimize their collaboration and performance.
It offers a visualization of team culture that provides both a framework and the language for team members to actively shape cultural norms and patterns that impact their performance.
Q: What makes it different from other assessments?
A: Unlike traditional assessments (i.e., MBTI, DiSC, Insights), where the focus is on individual results and adapting 1:1 interactions, Teamscape maps the cultural patterns of a group within the context of their day-to-day realities.
Teamscape emphasizes that interactions, relationships, and performance are inherently shaped and influenced by situational context (i.e., circumstances, environments, or conditions).
Q: I did not get an individual report with my results. Is this intentional?
A: This is intentional. Your Teamscape scores become meaningful when viewed alongside your teammates' results. The power lies in seeing the group patterns, blind spots, and dynamics that emerge.
Q: What does Teamscape measure?
A: Teamscape looks at four key cultural patterns:
- Interacting: How teams build trust and communicate
- Engaging Resources: How teams respond to uncertainty and leverage diverse perspectives
- Decision Making: How teams navigate varying needs of involvement and information
- Sense Making: How teams perceive challenges and approach solutions
Q: How long does the assessment take to complete?
A: The assessment will take approximately 12 -15 minutes. While the system will save your answers, we recommend completing in one sitting.
Understanding Your Results
Q: What do my coordinate numbers mean?
A: Each Teamscape Dimension gives you two numbers (1-25 scale) that plot you like coordinates on a map.
For example, if you score 18 on Relationship and 8 on Conflict, you'd appear in a specific quadrant. The midpoint is always 12.5, and your position relative to your teammates matters more than your absolute scores.
Q: What if I'm the only person in my quadrant?
A: Being an "outlier" isn't good or bad. It just means you may have a different experience from the majority of your team.
This often provides valuable insights about team dynamics and can help explain why certain interactions feel challenging or why your voice might not be heard the same way.
Q: Can my results change over time?
A: Absolutely. Teamscape captures how you approach collaboration in your current context with your current team.
As team dynamics shift, contexts change, or you develop new skills, your results may evolve.
That's why teams often retake Teamscape periodically.
Q: What are "blind spots" and why should I care?
A: Blind spots are quadrants where no one (or very few people) from your team appears.
This means your team might struggle when situations require approaches from those areas. For example, if no one is comfortable with high conflict, you might avoid necessary difficult conversations.
The Teamscape Workshop
Q: Do I need a facilitator, or can my team do this ourselves?
A: The goal of all workshops is to equip teams with the skills they need to co-create culture on their own; however, learning these core skills comes through live, facilitated experiences. Certified facilitators know how to read patterns, create safe spaces for difficult conversations, and guide teams through the three-step transformation process.
Q: What happens in a Teamscape workshop?
A: A typical session involves three phases:
- Map: Plotting and discussing your group configuration.
- Explore: Exploring underlying experiences and dynamics.
- Co-Create: Creating specific plans for how you'll work differently together.
Q: How long does a complete Teamscape workshop take?
A: We offer 3 unique workshops to meet your needs across formats, lengths, and scale.
Q: Can we do this virtually?
A: Yes! Teamscape works well in virtual environments.
Facilitators use breakout rooms, digital whiteboards, and the Teamscape web app to create engaging online experiences.
Some teams actually find that virtual sessions allow for more honest sharing.
Using the Teamscape Web App
Q: How do I access my results?
A: You'll receive a special login link via email when your team leader sets up the assessment.
This link is unique to your team session and gives you access to both take the assessment and view results during facilitated sessions.
Q: What can I see in the web app?
A: The web app shows your team's visual configurations for each Dimension, with dots representing each team member's position.
You can toggle between different maps and see how patterns shift across the four dimensions.
Individual score details are available but the focus is on group patterns.
Q: Can I retake the assessment?
A: Once you've completed the assessment for a specific team session, those results are locked in to maintain the integrity of the group analysis.
However, your team can initiate new sessions (perhaps after working together for several months) to see how dynamics have evolved.
Q: Is my data secure?
A: Yes. teamscapehub.com uses enterprise-grade security, and individual results are only viewable within your specific team session.
Data is not shared across teams or used for any purpose beyond your team's development.
Q: What if I have technical issues during the assessment? A: The platform includes built-in help features and error recovery.
If you experience issues, you can contact support through the app, and your progress is automatically saved so you won't lose your responses.
Team Applications
Q: What size teams work best with Teamscape?
A: Teamscape works with groups from 4 - 20+ people, though 6-12 is often ideal for deep facilitated conversations.
Larger groups can use it diagnostically or break into smaller subgroups for detailed exploration.
Q: Our team works across different time zones. How does this work?
A: Team members can complete the assessment asynchronously, but the facilitated discussions work best when everyone can participate together.
Many global teams schedule sessions during overlapping hours or rotate meeting times to be fair to all locations.
Q: We are a new team. Is Teamscape still useful?
A: Absolutely! New teams can use Teamscape proactively to understand potential collaboration challenges before they become problems.
It's often easier to establish inclusive norms from the beginning than to change established problematic patterns.
Q: What if our team is going through major changes (reorganization, new leadership, etc.)?
A: Teamscape is particularly valuable during transitions.
It helps teams understand how change might affect their dynamics and creates structured ways to discuss and adapt to new circumstances.
Practical Applications
Q: How do we move from insights to actual behavior change?
A: This is where the "prototyping" phase becomes crucial. Teams create specific, actionable agreements about how they'll work differently.
This might include new meeting structures, decision-making processes, or ways to handle disagreements. The key is making changes concrete and easy to implement.
Q: What if someone on our team is resistant to the process?
A: Resistance often comes from fear that differences will be judged or that people will be forced to change who they are.
Good facilitators address this by emphasizing that the goal is understanding and accommodation, not conformity.
Sometimes the most resistant people become the biggest advocates once they feel truly understood.
Q: Can we use Teamscape for specific projects rather than ongoing teams?
A: Yes! Many organizations use Teamscape for temporary project teams, cross-functional initiatives, or merger integration teams.
The key is having a group of people who need to collaborate effectively, regardless of how long they'll work together.
Q: How do we know if Teamscape is working?
A: Teams typically notice improvements in meeting effectiveness, decision-making speed, conflict resolution, and overall satisfaction with collaboration.
Many teams also retake Teamscape after 6-12 months to see how their patterns have evolved and identify new areas for growth.
Advanced Questions
Q: Can we customize Teamscape for our industry or culture?
A: While the core assessment remains consistent (to maintain validity), skilled facilitators adapt their approach to your industry context, organizational culture, and specific challenges.
The interpretation and application become highly customized to your situation.
Q: How does Teamscape relate to other assessments we've used (MBTI, DISC, etc.)?
A: Teamscape complements other assessments but serves a different purpose.
While personality assessments focus on individual traits, Teamscape focuses on group dynamics and collaborative behaviors. The focus is on adaptive teaming (the ability to shift roles, reconfigure quickly, and learn in real time as a group).
Q: Can leadership teams use this differently than other teams?
A: Leadership teams often find Teamscape particularly valuable because their dynamics ripple throughout the organization.
They might focus more on how their patterns affect decision-making speed, strategic thinking, or organizational culture.
The facilitation approach can be adapted for executive-level conversations.
